Andrea Superstein: OH MOTHER
The Jazz at the Griff series, presented by Trail & District Arts Council, brings you Andrea Superstein: OH MOTHER in The Bailey Theatre.
Andrea Superstein is one of the most versatile vocalists in Canadian music today. Dubbed as “redefining jazz” by the Vancouver Province, her debut performance at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival earned her a nomination for a Galaxie Rising Star award and launched her squarely into the limelight. Her musical stylings exemplify powerful vocals, evoking the gentle and the strong, the light and the dark, often in the same song, luring us in deeper with killer improvisational instincts and exceptional storytelling. Superstein has graced multiple official Spotify playlists, notably #4 on Vocal Jazz, just ahead of Norah Jones, received a 5-star review in BBC Music Magazine, and is a crowd favourite on the touring scene performing at numerous well-known jazz venues and festivals in North America.
OH MOTHER is a multimedia tour de force inspired by real life stories of motherhood. Meticulously arranged, each song beautifully and poignantly evokes a mother’s deep and divergent emotional experience with a truth and sincerity that’s often lacking in today’s music. Layers of rich textures, powerful vocals, and heartfelt imagery in breathtaking videos, enable Superstein to reach new artistic heights. While it focuses on the parental experience, this free-spirited musical experience is for everyone.
